Last week i went with my dad to his chemo appointment. He has 2 days every 2 weeks when he has to go to the hospital to get his chemo. Day 1 is a 6 hour drip of I think Eloxatin and then day 2 is a 2 hour drip of 5fu? Anyway, my sis went with him to the 6 hour treatment (she’s awesome) and I went to the 2 hour treatment. We wanted to give our mom a break from it all and also wanted to see what he has to go through each time. It wasn’t bad (for me). We just hung out and talked and caught up. It was a big open room with about 20 chairs for patients. It was interesting to see all the differnt people in there (young, old) with different kinds of cancer and different kinds of treatment. My dad has a new friend at chemo. A pancreatic cancer patient who loves football. They call each other “buddy” which I thought was super cute! Anyway, i’m glad i experienced chemo with my dad and am so grateful he has my mom through this!

Thanks for the warm welcome! I’m excited to be a part of such a great community. My hope is to get this thing started for my dad and hopefully get him more involved. I think it might help for him to talk to people who understand what he’s going through. He’s a private person, so it may be tough. :) Thanks again! :)
Hey—I see that your dad is on the same chemo as my mom. I was wondering how he was doing. She has stage 4 colon cancer as well. She is on oxiplatin and 5-FU. It is tough… Let me know how he is doing!
Hi Naunie! My dad recently finished treatment and is doing great! His CEA levels are back down and there isn’t any cancer right now. He still has a bit of neuropathy symptoms in his hands and feet from the eloxatin so he has to wear gloves in the house. But he can deal with that side effect if he has too. How is your mother doing. How far along into treatment is she?

Oh, that is so great! I am so happy for you! Wonderful! My mom is doing ok. We don’t know yet if it is “working” but her side effects aren’t too too bad. She is just soooo fatigued. It is so hard. I believe she gets a scan in March. I am so glad about your dad. Keep me updated! 2008 is going to be a great year!
Hi Naunie! I forgot, the fatigue was a major side effect my dad had. Your mom will get through it. Just keep her thinking positively. I would count down the treatments and say to him “just 5 treatments left” or “2 more, you can do it”. I think the positive thinking was good since he was feeling pretty negative during treatment. Stay well!
